REVIEW ~ Searching For Beautiful by Nyrae Dawn

Before, Brynn had a group of best friends, a loving boyfriend, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And after…she had none.

When Brynn lost the boyfriend who never loved her, the friends who feel she betrayed their trust, and the new life just beginning to grow inside her, she believes her future is as empty as her body. But then Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye again…sort of.

But can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?

Searching for Beautiful is a very deep and emotional young adult story written by Nyrae Dawn. The words behind these pages are very strong and this is a story that needed to be told. It can show you teen outreach programs do help and that there is always someone to listen. Someone to help, when you let them- when you want to be helped. What happened to the main character, Brynn can happen to any young person. Sometimes, you just kinda get caught up in infatuation, and nothing else matters.

When I read the first chapter, it was quite of a load. I was mortified for poor Brynn. She was dealing with loss and along came someone who she thought loved her. Who she trusted, only to discover betrayal. She had dreamed of having her own love story, only for it to be crushed. And only to lose again.

Now, Brynn is living with disappointment. To herself, to others, others to her. So, how can Brynn's living nightmare end? My heart breaks for her. Especially when she had went back to school. Teens can be so judgemental and harsh no matter if it's physical or in silence. To make someone feel like they have to question their self worth is cruel. And to feel alone is fear.

Little did Brynn know that someone next door could change everything. And possibly that someone is fighting emotional battles as well. Perhaps, they can support each other. But, can she let her guard down enough to let help in, to rekindle good memories, to accept the bad ones, to make new memories? Will Brynn heal?

I found myself trying to decipher if Jason really was an awful person. He made an irresponsible choice at what he was doing with Brynn. He should've known better. I kept trying to find any good in him. But I couldn't. He knew exactly what he was doing. The lies proved it, but the damage was done.

I was happy Brynn met Emery. She became a friend when Brynn needed it most-  when Brynn's best friends couldn't . The same for Christian's mom. And Christian himself. What a compassionate, crushworthy guy. There is a special place in my heart for people who offer support to others when they need it.

It wasn't easy for Brynn, but with encouragement and acception, and remembering the good memories, she found herself. And it was beautiful.
