When Drake started the night at his father’s campaign fundraiser, he never imagined he’d end it being conned into buying drugs on the West Side. Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.
Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.
Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.

REVIEW ~ Love Story by Jennifer Echols

You can view the synopsis for Love Story by Jennifer Echols by clicking the title via Goodreads.

It's confirmed (see the ending of my review for Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols). I repeat, Charlie Oscar November Foxtrot India Romeo Mike Echo Delta that Jennifer Echols is officially part of my favorite author group, joining Jeri Smith-Ready, Jandy Nelson, Gayle Forman, Carolyn Crane, Cassandra Clare, Laini Taylor, Melissa De La Cruz, and I'm sure there's a few more. It's a good group to be in Jennifer :).

My reading friends had been recommending Jennifer's books to me. After reading Such A Rush and raving over it so much, I traveled to Birmingham, AL to meet my #cyberBFF/blogging partner, Britney and we attended the Southern Magic Romance Writer's of America Luncheon where I got to meet and fan girl over Jennifer Echols. And I got to meet Jamie Manning, AND I won a FABULOUS gift basket from Jennifer Echols containing most of her books, signed! FWIW, Mrs. Echols can rock a tiara!!

Love Story was interestingly put together. It was like 2 stories in 1 - a story about the character, then a story about the character's story she's writing. And it's a double love story-- Hense the title, Love Story. Ding, ding, ding--- we get a double dose of love!! This author has humongous loads of talent to have been able to incorporate between the two stories and for the flow to have been so graceful. Totally captivating! Her writing... it just makes me feel good. I can't wait to start reading more of Jennifer Echols books!

Erin, the MC, was a writer and was preparing her book to get get critiqued in writing class. She based her story on realistic events of her life, but wrote it in historical fiction form. What didn't happen in those events of her life, could happen in the story she wrote. Most stories get their happy ending, but will Erin realistically get her happily ever after?

I loved the way I ached for Erin in the sense that she longed for a character in her book that she based on someone from her past. And then these awkward events start taking place in her life and you cringe, and smile, then cringe again, then smile some more. There were quite a few "Houston, we have a problem" moments in this book. I mean, I would totally crap myself if I were in Erin's shoes and a certain someone pops up in my writing class--and then to have them be involved in critiquing my work?! *DIES* Mortification with a capital M!

Erin was full of sarcasm that left me in laughter and Hunter reminds me of why I'm always on the "hunt" for a swoony, manipulative, fictional boy toy. And then Hunter did.... oh gosh- you gotta go read this... It's been over a month since I've read Love Story and it's all hitting me like it did when I read it.

You are gonna grit your teeth in longing, aggrevation, desire, curiosity, and... hold up, What the fu beeeep?" What you think isn't, and what isn't, is! There was some betrayal in there too folks and it hits in all directions. You will spread your lips into a smile at all the happy parts. And there were a few moments that caught my breath and left me squirming in delight.

Erin handled her distress well. I gotta give her that! If in some other life I'm in the same situation, I hope I'd handle it like her. And I hope my story would end in the way a love story should.

This book made me realize that when sometimes things go wrong in your life- like a should-a, could-a, would'a kinda thing... that you long for them to be so good.

Peeps, if you haven't already, go read Love Story by Jennifer Echols.

More reviews to come on this amazing author's work. Stay tuned!

(Adult) BLOG TOUR and GIVEAWAY ~ Making His Mark by Jennah Scott ~ Author Interview + Review

Man O' Man O' Man... Look at this steamy cover! Let me super size this for you.

Hot, right?!! Obviously, this is an adult book. So, if you are under age, please exit now. I do not want to be responsible for your parents walking in on you while you are staring at a hot chick wrapping her legs around Mr. Back Muscleicious.

The goods:

Alexis Catori is ready to let go of her past and move forward with her future. She wants a permanent reminder of this step in the form of a tattoo. Unfortunately, the best artist she knows is also the guy she’d rather sucker punch than be friends with, Bo Nantan.

Bo Nantan loves tattooing. It gives him everything he’s dreamed of having: freedom, friends, and the chance to draw. That should be enough to make him happy, but one woman’s been invading his thoughts since an unplanned kiss after a bet he shouldn't have made. Too bad Alexis Catori is his own personal definition of frenemy.

With Bo's prompt refusal to do her tattoo, a storm of emotion erupts between them. It doesn't take long to admit the attraction they both feel. But when her past returns, Alexis doubts her ability to move on as planned.

Will her past become her future? Or will Alexis and Bo figure out that the move they both need to make is to quit fighting and admit they both want more?

*  * * * *

Welcome to Living-Fictitiously's stop on the Making His Mark Blog Tour. You peeps are in for a real treat. Today, we'll be interviewing the master mind behind MHM, the fabulous Jennah Scott!! And what do ya know... she happens to be a pal of mine!!

Following the interview, will be my review of Making His Mark, and a giveaway for your own E-copy!!!

KIMBERLY: What inspired you to write Making His Mark?
Jennah:  Oh man. That’s a loaded question. There were a couple of things. Making His Mark was kind of an accident. It started as a few scenes that were done for fun, writing exercises while I worked on another story. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I had a whole new story dying to get out! Voila…Making His Mark is born.

KIMBERLY:  How long have you been writing?
Jennah:  Like most, I’ve pretty much written for as long as I can remember. Only in the past couple of years did I sit down and decide to make writing my career. I guess I finally decided what I wanted to do when I grew up.

Kimberly:  Is MHM a stand-alone novel or will it be a series?
Jennah:  It will be a series for sure. I’m not sure yet if it will be 4 or 6 total books. I guess that depends on how many characters drive me crazy and what readers want.

Kimberly:  Peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese sandwich?
Jennah:  Peanut butter and jelly for sure!

Kimberly:  Any music to go along with MHM?
Jennah:  Not really. I’m not one to listen to music when I write. There were a couple of times I turned on my YouTube playlist of Native American Powwow music when I needed inspiration, but that’s about it.  http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9CC7B1F6B383BB25

Kimberly:  Any actors/actresses you envision for MCs?
Jennah:  I’m horrible at casting! No, seriously horrible. I picture my MCs in my head, but they never translate into actors or actresses. I’d love to hear who readers would pick though.

Kimberly:  Did you make yourself blush while writing/reading some of the 'makin bacon' scenes?
Jennah:  You know, they say if a scene makes you hot while you’re writing it, then it must be good. If that’s true then I’m going to say that every scene I wrote made me blush. LOL! Kidding (kind of). There were a couple that I wouldn't say made me blush, but when I finished them I had to take a minute. Making His Mark is the first book I actually wanted to write some hot “makin’ bacon” scenes.

Kimberly:  Did you have the idea for that smokin' cover? Holy buttman, that cover is bangilicious!!
Jennah:  I’m glad you like the cover! I designed it myself. There was only one other cover that I debated on. But this one caught my eye right away. It reminded me of one particular scene in the book at the beginning when Bo and Alexis are first beginning to admit they might actually like each other.

Kimberly:  Is any part of the story realistic?
Jennah:  If you mean realistic, as in it actually happened, no. There are a couple of characters that are very much based on people that I have known or know. Alexis started out resembling my very wonderful critique partner, Alexi Raymond, before I rewrote the story a couple of times. Now there’s a very loose resemblance between the two. I’m pretty sure you have a little bit of personality in there as well. Since you know--you, Alexis and Mel all had a hand in #HumpDayWednesday, the Twitter hashtag where Making His Mark was born.

Kimberly:  What book/s are you currently reading?
Jennah:  Now there’s a tough question. I just finished MOMENTUM by Cassandra Carr last night and DARKER AFTER MIDNIGHT by Lara Adrian (a series I highly recommend).

Kimberly:  Busta rhyme from Baby Got Back.
Jennah:  "When a girl walks in with a itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face..."

<<Peeps, she totally busted out the donkey butt dance>>

Kimberly:  Sooooo, being we are buds... Would you rather go to an Awolnation concert with me or a discotheque sporting proper attire?
Jennah:  My first response was going to be Awolnation concert. But since I’m going with you…definitely a discotheque sporting proper attire. I know I’ve seen pics of you in an afro wig.

Kimberly:  And finally, do you plan on getting any ink in celebration of your book release?
Jennah:  Without a doubt I will get some ink. The question is what will it be? There are so many different pieces I want, so more than likely I’ll end up with a piece that represents books in general. These days it’s not if I’ll get more ink, but when!

Jennah:  Thank you so much for having me today! I hope you enjoy reading Making His Mark as much as I enjoyed writing it. You more than helped with motivation throughout this process and I’m so glad to you have met and become friends.

<<Awwww, me too Jen!! *Hugs and squeezes you tight!*>>

Below is my review for Making His Mark. Stay tuned for the giveaway!

Jennah!! You dirrrrrty girl- you need to chew some Orbit! Kidding!! Jennah is a pal of mine and while I have read some of her unpublished work, I've yet to read MHM, up until now. And this my lovely 'of age' folks definitely has some steamy erotica going on. I mean, I've read some adult books with intimate scenes in them, but this... Whoa lawdy, make your panties pant! I got a few thrills off it!! << I know, TMI. But dang! MHM gave me the blushing giggles. THAT is hard to do to me!! Score for Jennah!!

Luscious, feisty, spunky Alexis had been through a nasty relationship that left her scarred and scared for a new beginning. After an unexpected tongue encounter with her dude frenemy, it threw her through a fury of lusty confusion towards ink master Bo. Bo's got the COCK-y thing going on, but if you can see past his facade, he was in fact, sincere, yet vulnerable.

So... We had some mutual desire going on. It kept me swiping the pages to find out how mutual this would turn out to be. And, ok i wanted to read all that lushness going on as well. Will nights of smoldering hot sex develop a new level of relationship for Alexis and Bo or will their repetitive bickering continue? Will they ever compromise to give each other what they want? There were times when I wanted to step in as a relationship referee and be like, settle down... Talk it out. But they had to do it when they were ready. They had to mend their broken selves in order to not be afraid to love.

My favorite line from a spicy shower scene: "Bo pumped until his release shot out with enough force he could have power washed a wall." If you know my personality, then it shouldn't surprise you that's a fav. *Giggles*

About the Author:

Jennah Scott resides Kansas City, Missouri. Until she started
writing she didn't know what she wanted to be. Which is why she has degrees in education, business, and medical assisting. All that uncertainty has provided her with plenty of ideas for new books. When she isn't writing she's causing trouble on Twitter, hanging out with family, or she's lost in a book. There's one thing about Jennah, there will never be a dull moment when she's around.

REVIEW ~ Blood Born by Jamie Manning

You can view the synopsis for Blood Born, book one of the Blood Prophecy Series by Jamie Manning by clicking the title via Goodreads.

Jamie Manning takes us on Ava's journey as a hybrid vampire in this YA paranormal mystery. She has what other vampires crave, humanity. And it makes her a target. Her memory loss doesn't help her situation either.
Jamie guided us straight to the story and Ava jumped in her role quickly.

See... bad things happen, right? Sometimes we have no control of what happens in our lives. But, have no fear, cause this chick Ava will take control. And shes going to fix it; maybe ;)

Ava is a spitfire. I had no doubt that the girlpire could take care of herself. Plus, she had an instant, electrifying sidekick. Mr green-eyed, love-muscled Chance. The mysterious secrets he held over Ava kept me flipping those pages and so did the motives of Aldric. I really liked Chance. He didn't come off as some bad ass hottie. He was compassionate and had a calming sense to him. He was sincere and had green eyes and curly hair. Yum!! And Kayla, Ava's friend, is a friend every one should have. I also enjoyed reading the interaction between Ava, Kayla and the twins. I may have developed a slight crush on Erik? He had that hot, quirky dude thing going but was confident.

Ava and her crew are going to have to go through one hell of a fight. Ava's got quite a mission to accomplish if she wants to be amongst the living, as in mortal, again. Chance is by her side, but can she trust him? Will Adric help her? And does Ava have the skillz to pay her billz?

Then, oh hell, the ending!! Cliffhanger much, Jaimie?

REVIEW ~ Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols

You can view the synopsis for Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols by clicking the title via Goodreads.

Leah was raised in trailer parks all of her life, and she pretty much supported herself since the age of 14. She was ridiculed by most for her lifestyle, no one ever really taking a chance to get to know how lovely she is, well accept for her one friend Molly, eventually the twins, and Mr. Hall. Readers should envy her because she didn't let any of that high school bully drama control the goals and decisions she made for herself. She didn't let anyone or anything stop her from accomplishing her dream. It didn't stop her from having pride. And THAT is what made this story so beautiful and this girl deserved so much acknowledgement. Leah truly has wings.

Let me tell you something about Leah- the girl was real. She didn't hide behind some facade to be anyone else, but herself. HIGH FIVES TO YOU GIRL! *Smack* The slang this girl had to deal with made me ill. Effing bullies, grrrrrrrrrr!

Reading this book was quite an experience for me, because I'm not a fan AT. ALL. of flying. I've flown a couple of times and I shake like a dang chihuahua the entire time. But you know what? After reading Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols, it possibly gave me a little faith in being future airborne, baby! Maybe! *Bites nails* Plus, if I get to be around Grayson and Alec, then I want to join the mile high club (in a PG-13, YAish kind of way!)!

This story was a dreamy, flipping fantastic tense read, tragic at times. The author's writing style is simple and breath taking. It's been three months since I've read this book (late in posting reviews) and I still can't get the story or it's MC's out of my head, making it in the top 5 of my favorite reads in 2012. I have such a beautiful respect for this book. The character development was extremely gush-worthy. It was all in there- lots of self discovery, mourning, denial, presumptions, anticipation, betrayal, and reciprocation among characters and so much want and need! There were twin guys in there--EEP! Grayson was brave, adventurous and enjoys a good rush- a bit harsh at times, while Alec was calm and collective- a smoooth operator. One of them sported a straw cowboy hat and aviators. I normally don't go for boys with that look, but saddle up Grayson, lemme take you for a ride--- yeeee-haaaw!!! I was questionable at times about Leah and Molly's friendship, but it was legit. From chapter 2 until the last page, I was hanging on by the edge of my seat, trying not to bite all of the skin off my lips! The title stands up to every word in this book- SUCH A RUSH! It was a pleasure reading about Leah, her story, and her supporting characters. You definitely will read and crush over this book! It's for sure an adrenaline pumping read!

I have a feeling, and will confirm with reading more Jennifer Echols books, that she will quickly become a favorite author of mine! Now, go! Go get your read on! *Says Missy Elliot style*

REVIEW- Lust for Life by Jeri Smith-Ready

You can view the synopsis for the final book (adult paranormal/fantasy romance) in the WVMP Radio Series, Lust for Life by Jeri Smith-Ready by clicking the title, via Goodreads.

Okay, let me gather myself here and pay close attention to my grammar and make sure everything is in order for my OCD loving vampires. Shit, I probably still will mess it all up. Oh well, here we go!!

Before we start, don’t forget, it's pronounced "KEER-ah."

Wow. Just Wow! She’s done it again y’all! This author blows my mind with emotion and bliss with each book she writes. It’s so amazing! Her characters are amazing! Her books are amazing! Jeri Smith-Ready is… you got it! AMAZING! I will firmly admit that I am completely fanatical with her books, and yes, okay- with her too!

When I received Lust for Life upon its release, either I could’ve sped read it out of excitement, or I could delve in it and take my time to read it- let it be an indulgence so I could appreciate the finale in the WVMP Radio series even more and make it last. Therefore, when I deserved something awesome for myself, Lust for Life was my treat. And I salivated it.

Oh man, gaaaahhh-daaammmmnnn!! Shane did a number in his first appearance. He was in uniform; all dressed in black and combat-y... I mean, that was knock my pants off hot!! Thump, thump, HUMP!!! I gotta throw this in too- Ladies and gentlemen rev those engines and get your blood pumping, because David was in black too; a black sleeveless shirt... I just imagined it all tight across his chest--- good lawd made me wanna go and take a bite out of a juicy, medium rare steak!

And, I mean, here we go again with psycho's fucking with the vampires at WVMP Radio Station! When are you people going to realize it's all about the music, man... Just step back, close your eyes and tap your foot to the beat and leave WVMP be!!

The ending of this series justified everything I hoped for Ciara and Shane who shared a binded love that I admire. The sacred love and support the MCs have for each other got brighter and better with each book and it put me through such awe. Ciara is definitely my favorite girl crush in the adult paranormal fantasy world. Her thoughts, reactions, and presentation were a solid deal!

Things happened in the finale... That I never would have predicted!!!! OH MY GOD! The challenges Ciara and Shane had to face along with the other DJ’s were scary enough to have made my stomach feel like it was going to rip open as I anticipated and read. And some chapters closed out with a gasp. There were moments worthy of bitch slapping myself in shock from the beginning chapter, which started off with a blast! The curveballs made me bite my knuckles as I continued to read! There were moments where I had to gather myself quite a few times in reading this story, but that's what I love so much about Jeri's writing. The emotion she puts behinds these characters and their story. The trials and tribulations they had to go through to get to that perfect ending for themselves and for their forever. The relationships the characters build with each other... the relationship you build with the story made it all such a personal read. The last 100 pages had my heart pounding with so much emotion. And then an ending that left me with glee.

Oh, OH! “Yeah booooooooyeeeeee,” (said flava flav style) we had us a new vampire DJ. .. Adrian, I’m pleased to meet you! You got me with that secret… but you turned out alright! ;)

Soooo, with all this said, while the WVMP Radio Series has ended, Jeri has given us playlists throughout the series to represent the goods and will forever be 'the lifeblood rock 'n' roll.' All I have to do is hit play on my WVMP playlists and I can reminisce. Or I could re-read the series, or refer back to my reviews of Wicked Game, Bad to the Bone, Bring On the Night, Let It Bleed (3.5) and finally, Lust for Life.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to read the WVMP Radio Series, Wicked Game, Bad to the Bone, Bring On the Night, Let It Bleed (3.5), and Lust for Life … then you must put these on your TBR quick! You can also check out Jeri's WVMP short stories.

These books are full of craving, obsession, music, love, passion, devastation, confusion, misery... and happiness. Thank you Jeri for always giving your readers awesome stories, filled with every emotion possible, radical music, and beautiful words. Thank you for 'the lifeblood of rock 'n' roll.'

One last thing... Shane, I gotch yo pancakes ;) *bounces eyebrows* “McGriffin”… Love it!
