Liz Crowe's STEWARD REALTY ANTHOLOGY: Blog Tour

Please welcome Liz Crowe, author of the fabulous Stewart Realty series. In honor of the release of the new Stewart Realty “Jack & Sara Trilogy” print anthology, she’s taken the time to answer some of Britney’s questions. And as always she’s such fun to talk to!

Britney: You're a writer of "Romance for Real Life." What is your definition of "Romance for Real Life" and what do you like most about writing this subgenre?

Liz: Well, first let me say “thanks” for having me here today. And second, allow me to say that honestly, my books are not really “romance.” They have elements of what readers expect in romance novels but that really just means that the books are “character driven.” Or that the characters drive the story as opposed to some external plot or crises.

I write books with characters that provoke very strong reactions in readers—not always positive ones—which is sort of where “romance” and “Liz books” part company. And I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t read traditional romance books and never have. However, I do love a book that delves deep into the psychology of the humans in it, and have attempted to do that in all of my books.

I think that any author who can create characters that make a reader stop, think, and have deep emotional reactions to them that are NOT always “knee- melting,” or “omg I want to be her bestie” are authors I want to read. So, that is what I try to create. It’s a tough balance, crafting characters that you can curse on one page, then empathize with on the next. I shoot for it.

I’m not saying romance books are bad. Frankly, it’s such a giant beast of a genre I’d be lucky to consider myself successful in it. But I gave up on that once I acknowledged that I just could not allow my characters to be too…perfect.

B: I'm really looking forward to this new anthology in print! (Yes, I still have a bookcase and I love my hard copy books!) This anthology will include the first 3 books in the Stewart Realty series: Floor Time, Sweat Equity, and Closing Costs, also known as the Jack and Sara Trilogy. Which of these was your most favorite to write and why? What do you like most about Jack and Sara's relationship and/or is there anything about their relationship you found particularly difficult to write?

L: You know, I adore these two, mainly because so many of my fans “feel them,” or come to me at various times and say “I have never felt as if a book character could be as real as these.”

That said, both Jack and Sara are so type-A as to be pretty self-centered. I think that I enjoyed so many aspects of crafting their relationship (and that of those around them) and each one of the original trilogy represents something important about how they learn to trust and love each other. Their love is so strong, it transcends many things (as readers have found in the final novel Good Faith that released last November). But I make them go through a fair bit of hell to find that heaven in each other’s arms…finally. Floor Time is part one—the heat, the steam, the getting-to-know and really enjoy but reject, until Jack pulls a major trigger at the end. Sweat Equity is the one that had many readers cursing my name in the wee hours. It’s the typical “middle novel” that has the bulk of the personal crises with a killer cliff hanger. Closing Costs introduces a very important new character—one that finally makes Jack and Sara understand that it is NOT all about the two of them.

B: You are constantly turning out new and exciting stories full of romance (well I consider it romance. Who needs an unnaturally happy ending all the time!?)and lets be honest, a fair share of heartbreak. Can you give us an idea of what you have coming out for us in the near future?

L: Well, I’m turning my attention to a psychological thriller that I hope to sell to an agent who will help me move to a new level of my career. I also have a really killer mystery novel (both of these are set in Ann Arbor/Detroit) that’s in early stages of development that I want to have ready for that go-getter agent once we find each other.

I also have big plans for the Black Jack Gentlemen series, a side series from Stewart Realty that already has 3 novels released. It is about a fictional expansion pro soccer team set in Detroit.

B: Now for fun! If you were stranded on an island and could only choose to live the rest of your life with 1 of each of the following, what would your choices be?

- Type of beer (I know how difficult this one might be for you Ms. Beer Wench!) Easy: an India Pale Lager—hoppy, balanced, around 7% alcohol.
- Book: Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood
- Movie (Hey, this is a semi-well equipped deserted island!): Empire of the Sun
- Food: Pizza
- Non-alcoholic beverage: coffee (duh)
- Animal: my standard poodles (both of them)

B: I like to keep my deserted islands very well equipped. Hey, it’s my world! Thanks so much for joining us Liz! It was such a pleasure as always.

L: Thanks again for having me!

Stewart Realty Anthology: The Jack and Sara Trilogy

Stewart Realty:  Life in the House Lane

Love is an easy word to use, a hard one to demonstrate, and sometimes impossible to trust.
The Stewart Realty series is a sweeping epic, encompassing many years in the lives of two people who know how to love with their bodies, how to please and get pleasure, to control and be controlled.  When it comes to the deeper meaning of the one word they both need, backgrounds and personalities get in the way. While their physical connection sizzles they somehow manage to continuously disappoint one another on an emotional level.
Jack Gordon has it all—money, success, a string of women—but also a deep longing for something more. When he thinks he finds it with Sara Jane Thornton, his world is never the same again. Sara releases a side of himself he considered buried out of frustration and unhappiness. Sara soon learns that she must trust him implicitly, something she cannot do, no matter how many times she tries...and he fails.
With a rich cast of secondary characters, including a young man who presents a near-perfect foil to Jack's intensity, and who falls hard for Sara, The Stewart Realty series is a saga with an emphasis on contemporary life with a healthy dose of realistic eroticism. A tale of modern, busy, driven people seeking the ever-elusive and highly coveted combination—a friend, lover and trusted companion who will be there for the long haul.
Start at the beginning, with the Jack and Sara Trilogy, now for the first time ever in a print anthology. The Stewart Realty series is a best seller in family saga and urban fiction categories. See for yourself what the buzz is all about.

Floor Time Excerpt (Stewart Realty Series (Book 1):

Sara put her palms against the ice-cold glass of the floor-to-ceiling windows. She smiled, observing the entire downtown of Ann Arbor spread out below her like a child's carpet map. The heat rose visibly from the pavement as the crowds scurried in and out of restaurants and shops.
Adam's arms around her waist startled her. As she turned, a niggling voice at the back of her brain made her hesitate before brushing his lips with hers. They'd been in the vacant condo way too long. Now that he'd teased a satisfactory orgasm from her neglected body, an antsy, nervous sensation wormed through her psyche. She sighed and disentangled herself from his embrace.
When the doorbell echoed through the cavernous space, she broke out in a cold sweat. Fumbling with blouse buttons, she pushed past Adam on her way through the kitchen and to the door, cursing under her breath. She looked back to make sure he was pulled together – not a tough thing since neither of them got completely out of their clothes – and scowled as he gave her a knowing smile.
Shit. You should not have done this. You don't even really like him. But it had been so long and he was pretty good looking. Jesus, slut much Sara?
Sara let guilty thoughts clang around her head long enough to hear the doorbell ring once more before yanking it open, her perfect pleased-to-see-you sales smile fixed in place, keys clutched in one hand.

Jack had a hot date, one that was going to yield him a kick-ass listing, but due to the unwarranted dawdling of the condo-shopping couple he had been dragging around, he'd be lucky to make it in time. The empty lock box on the door of the penthouse unit provided the real icing on the cake. He leaned on the doorbell, hoping they could skip this one and stop wasting his time while mouthing platitudes to his clients. He had hoped that the relocating, executive couple like the ones he was courting at that moment wouldn't spend so much of his valuable time arguing over granite colors and the relative benefits of central vacuum cleaners. God, he hated this job sometimes. He smiled, and turned, hearing the click of the deadbolt. Finally.
When the heavy door swung open, the vision standing there froze him mid-sentence. Sara Thornton, one of the newer, and more successful, realtors at Stewart Realty, stared at him, eyes blazing in a strange combination of aggravation and satisfaction. Jack clenched his jaw at the sight of her smoking hot body encased in skintight short black skirt, creamy silk blouse and four-inch stilettos.
As one of the few chosen to populate the downtown storefront office, based upon her good looks and the ability to rope in new buyers and sellers off the streets of Ann Arbor, Sara had serious sales skills. He'd studied the branch's numbers, as part of a management decision-making process, to ultimately turning down the offer to handle that stable of prima donnas. But at that moment Jack couldn't believe he'd never noticed her before – really noticed her. Where had she been hiding? And what was that amazing sexy aura that permeated the air? Jack's heart jumped in his chest.
"Um, hi Jack." Her voice was hoarse, making him blink. He made a conscious effort to wipe the idiotic look off his face, aware of the annoying clients still standing at his elbow. He held out a hand, needing to confirm that her skin felt as hot as it looked. Surprised no one else saw the sparks pass between them, he couldn't suppress a grin at the look on her flustered face.
So, she sensed it too. This could get interesting.
"Sara." He heard his own voice, sounding a hell of a lot more confident than he felt at that moment. And he did not rattle easily. "Sorry to barge in but…” He was struck dumb once again by the sight of Adam Donovan, mortgage broker tool, at Sara's shoulder. Jack gave himself a mental shake. The sudden realization of what had undoubtedly happened, in the same condo he was about to show, made his head pound. Reluctant admiration mixed with something resembling jealousy fogged his brain.  He raised his eyebrows at the tall blond man whom he could have sworn was engaged to someone else.
"Jack." Adam moved around the beautiful woman who still blocked the doorway.  "Good to see you."
Jack shook the guy's hand, never taking his gaze from Sara, reserving his smile for her.  His brain engaged, focus locked on Sara Thornton, and the world shifted under his expensively clad feet.

Sara had never been more embarrassed. No, that was too weak of a word – mortified was better. Jack Gordon, king of the Ann Arbor real estate universe, wanted to show the condo where she'd just let Adam Donovan mercy fuck her. As she tried not to drown in Jack's deep blue gaze, Sara clenched her thighs, already imagining how he might have done it differently, and likely better.
"Um, hi Jack," she croaked out. Her face flooded with heat; even more so when she put the keys in his outstretched hand, and yanked herself back at the intensity of their instant connection. Tall, ruggedly handsome with coal-black hair and a shimmering blue gaze, the man boasted a personality that bested all other males within a fifty-mile radius. Sara only knew of him, of course. They'd never actually met. However, she'd swear right then he seemed happy to see her. The realization made her zing from scalp to toes.
She watched his full lips form words but remained deafened by the roaring in her ears. His gaze never left hers, even when Adam nudged her aside and shook his hand. Her whole universe suddenly shrank to two people. Looking back, she'd pinpoint that as the instant she fell hopelessly in love with an impossible man.

Blog Tour + Interview + Excerpt: SUCKER LITERARY Volume 2

SUCKER LITERARY BLOG TOUR

Sucker Literary – Volume 2 Blurb
When Alex’s bandmates invite a girl to sing lead, a battle of the sexes becomes a battle over something unexpected. . . A girl tells her friend about hooking up with longtime crush Fred, but his kisses are not what makes that night in his car memorable. . . A therapy session with Doug might just make Jason go insane again. . . Wallflower Aubrey hooks up with Gordon after the cast party, which would be fine if he weren’t the most forbidden fruit of them all…Savannah certainly doesn’t sound like a convict’s name, so maybe hanging out with her isn’t all that dangerous. Miki is committed to getting over Dex, yet she can’t get him off her answering machine—or her doorstep. In between puffs of cigarettes and attempts to smear lipstick on her face, Allie’s grandmother dishes out advice that maybe Allie should take. . . And finally, what’s a girl to do with Satan as both her boss and father? Nine short stories pose the questions we obsess over whether we’re growing up or all grown up: Who should I love? Am I doing the right thing? Is there ever an end to heartbreak?
In its second volume, SUCKER continues to showcase the very best emerging talent in young adult literature and give (some of) the answers to Life’s Big Questions along the way.
Sucker will reopen the doors for Volume 3 submissions. One day ONLY, August 1, 2013. Find the guidelines HERE.

Interview with Myself
By Suzanne Kamata

Suzanne Kamata’s story “Day Pass,” about a “good girl” who takes an inmate to the mall, appeared in Sucker Anthology #2. Her stories for young adults have also appeared in Hunger Mountain, Cicada, and the anthologies including Woman’s Work (edited by Michelle Sewell) and Tomo: Friendship Through Fiction – An Anthology of Japan Teen Stories (edited by Holly Thompson). She’s the publicity assistant for SCBWI-Tokyo. Her first novel for young adults, Gadget Girl: The Art of Being Invisible (GemmaMedia), was published in May.

Q. So what’s the deal with your Japanese last name? You don’t look very Japanese to me.

A. I married a Japanese man. I met him when I came to Japan to teach English, a year after I graduated from college, and I’ve been living in rural Japan ever since. We now have two kids.

Q: But your story, “Day Pass,” is set in South Carolina…

A.            Before coming to Japan, I lived in South Carolina. My family moved there from Michigan the summer before my senior year of high school. I hung around and got a degree in English from the University of South Carolina.

Q: This story is totally made up, right? I mean, you can’t actually take prisoners shopping, can you?

A: Well, actually you can, or at least you could. And I did! This story was inspired by a personal experience. I think I was eighteen at the time, which was apparently old enough for me to take responsibility for a prisoner in a minimum security prison, who was about to re-enter society.

Q: So you really did work with prisoners? Murderers??

A: Yes, and I got along with them pretty well. There was only murderer that I know of – the night janitor. I enjoyed working with the woman who was in prison for writing bad checks – the one who worked the salad bar with me.

Q: A reader suggested that this story could be expanded into a novel. Do you have any plans to do that?

A: I’d never thought about it before. As the story is now, it’s over at the end. But since I read that comment, it’s occurred to me that it’s a possibility. When my kids were little, I mostly avoided writing about bad girls. I think I wanted to keep the world innocent and pure for them, as much as possible. Now they’re fourteen, a little tougher, and I’m ready to reconsider.

Q: What’s your writing process like? Are you a plotter or a pantser?

A: I designate at least one day a week just for writing. It’s not enough, but I try to keep that time reserved no matter what. I tend to write out of sequence, writing whichever scene I’m most interested in at the time, or whichever scene comes to me. I usually have a vague idea of where a story is going, but things often change. So I’m more of a pantser, but with a destination in mind.

Q: What do you do when you get stuck?

A: I rarely get stuck, because I’m always working on more than one thing at once. But to spark ideas, I often use writing prompts.

Q: Do you belong to a writing group?

A: I share early drafts with a few trusted readers. Once in a while, I ask someone new, someone who’s not overly familiar with my writing to get a fresh perspective. This fall I’m starting an MFA, so I’ll have even more new beta readers.

Q: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

A: Maybe an anthropologist. I like watching people, and I’m interested in other cultures and subcultures. And I love to travel. Really, anthropology and writing are very similar.

Q: What are you working on now? What’s next?

A: I’m hoping that my next published novel will be one I wrote about an all-girl punk rock band in 1980s underground Columbia, South Carolina. The working title is The Screaming Divas, and excerpts have appeared here and there, including on the Hunger Mountain site.  I’ve got a lot of other projects going. I’ve just started working on a sequel to my YA debut, Gadget Girl: The Art of Being Invisible, which was published in May. I’m tinkering with a story-in-verse, and I’ve been revising a mid-grade novel about Japanese baseball. Also, I really, really want to write a YA novel involving animals. Stay tuned.

Thanks so much for sharing with us Suzanne!

Excerpt from “Day Pass” by Suzanne Kamata, Sucker Literary Volume 2

“What are you gonna be when you finish college?” she asks me one night while we are eating.
“A teacher,” I reply. “I want to teach English in foreign countries.”
Her violet eyes fix on me and sparkle with interest. “You mean like France? That sounds real exciting. I’ve never been outside of South Carolina, except for one time Mama and me went up to Graceland.”
Actually, I want to go to poor countries, places where I will be needed, where I can make a difference, and help underprivileged kids reach their potential. But I don’t say this. I let Savannah fill her head with cafés and the Eiffel Tower. I imagine teaching her French and helping her win a scholarship to France.
Savannah doesn’t speak in the language of my textbooks, but I know that isn’t her fault. The lovely lilt of her voice and the grace of her movements when she lifts a glass to her lips belie an innate elegance.
“What do you want to be?” I ask her.
Some of the waitresses have spent their entire working lives in food service. Carrying trays and sweet-talking customers are the only things they know how to do, and they’ll probably keep doing them till they’re old enough to collect Social Security checks. Savannah, I know, is not one of them. She is meant for something else.
Her eyes stray from my face, and her mind seems to drift past the time clock, past the leering cook who keeps smacking his lips at us as we eat, through the door and out into another world.
“I want to be a secretary,” she finally says. “I can type pretty fast.”
It’s a modest dream, and I am touched by her simple aspirations. My friends and I wanted to be artists and astronauts, and then later, lawyers, teachers, and engineers. If I spend enough time with her, perhaps I can convince her to strive for more.
I am careful not to ask her about the prison, but sometimes she volunteers information.
“We can go out on a day pass if someone checks us out. My mother comes once in a while and takes me to see a movie or something,” she says.
She picks the lettuce leaf and tomato off her hamburger and eats them. The rest of the food has grown cold on the plate. Her appetite, never good, seems especially bad tonight.
It’s then that I get the idea to take her shopping. I figure she must have money if she has a job. I could help her feel normal for a while. I could give her freedom, if only for a few hours.
I feel the importance of my mission. I will be her savior. I will be her guide for virtuous living. I am momentarily entranced by an image of us having lunch together downtown, double-dating, going to the movies. We’ll be like sisters, trading secrets and makeup tips, laughing together.
“When is your next day off?” I ask her.

COVER REVEAL & Giveaway: EVERYTHING BREAKS by Vicki Grove

Everything Breaks
by Vicki Grove

Release Date: Fall 2013

Synopsis:

Tucker was supposed to be the designated driver. But there was something about the beauty of that last true summer night, that made him want to feel out-of-control just once. He drank so much and so quickly that he was instantly sick. That left Trey to drive. "I'll catch up to you later," were the last words Tucker would ever say to his friends as he heaved by the side of the road. It was the last time Tucker would ever see them alive.

Tucker’s grief and guilt are just about unbearable and he wonders how he can continue living himself. When he meets the Ferryman who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers that divide the world of the living from the world of the dead, Tucker gets a chance to decide: live or die. The temptation to join his three best friends on the other side may be too much for Tucker to overcome.

A gripping, haunting and emotional read.

Snippet:

There was a lot more that I wanted to tell her, like that everything in this beautiful treasure house of a world breaks, and sometimes things break so bad, all you can do is hope to get your heart to stop bleeding long enough for you to sift through the ashes so you can try to gain some slight understanding. But some things that break real bad can be mended if you’re lucky enough to have someone on your side with a ton of glue who won’t give up.

And now, an interview with the author, Vicki Grover!

B: Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book/series?

Vicki: Wow, I hate to give you such a lame answer, Britney, but I guess I read too many great authors to single out anybody.   I read YA and adult stuff and the books of my writer buddies, all of whom are marvels of nature.  I like meaty books that concentrate most on characterization.  Here's something I've noticed lately~ when I'm struggling with something, I pick out books written on that subject.  Fiction, not self-help books.  Everything I know about life I've learned through voraciously reading fiction, which is why I love the name of your blog so much.

B: Do you have a favorite time/place/method of writing?

V: I live deep in the Ozark woods.  You have to go to a lot of trouble to live clear out here.  For instance, the steep gravel roads ruin your car, you're a good half hour from the nearest town, the internet connection is iffy, and there are snakes galore.  On the good side, it's gorgeous, and exciting in the quietly mysterious way of all natural places.   I love to write on the banks of our big creek, or down at our pond.   I'm not afraid of being alone, and quiet.  Noise is a deal-breaker for me.  I love to write early in the morning.  The main thing for me is to write for at least a few hours every day.  But of course a part of your mind is always on your writing, swirling it around.  I'm thinking very seriously of going back to a #2 pencil for my first drafts.   Sometimes I think computer is too fast, faster than my thoughts.  Sometimes I wonder if cursive isn't a sort of magical match for the speed of your brain.

B: Can you tell us a little about what we expect from the story?

V: This is my first full-out supernatural book, though I did put a ghost boy in an attic once in a book called Rimwalkers.   When I was a kid I was addicted to Twilight Zone on television, and later I wrote a story or two for Twilight Zone Magazine.  I think of Everything Breaks as a sort of TZ-ish story.   It starts out with four seventeen-year-old boys in Oklahoma, going to the last bonfire of the season.  Spirits are high, drinking starts, and driving over a bluff to reach the lake, the car leaves the road on a switch-back curve and crashes on the beach far below.  Just before this, one of the boys has dived from the car to throw up in the ditch.  He, Tucker, survives to tell the story, but he's in horrible shape, physically, mentally, and emotionally.   Guilt and longing for the past are eating him alive, literally.  And then one night he picks up a hitchhiker, or rather she gets into his car, uninvited.  She looks like a scrawny little blue-haired teenager with bitten-to-the-quick purple fingernails, but looks can be deceiving.  She's actually the Ferryman who carries the souls of the newly deceased across the rivers that divide the world of the living from the world of the dead.  From her point of view, he's now in her vehicle, having called her to come with his own dwindling life force.  And now Tucker will have to figure out fast whether he wants to fight to live or yield to the intense longing he feels to join his friends on the other side.   The dog on the cover of the book is Cerberus, better known to the Ferrygirl, Charon, as Cherry Berry.   I was flattered when my editor called this, "A gripping, haunting and emotional read."   I hope it is, and wanted it to be.

B: Can you tell us a little more about the characters in EVERYTHING BREAKS? Any interesting tidbits?

V:  I almost always start my novels with some resonant memory that hounds me and wants to be explored.  When I was a senior in high school, three boys went off a bluff road in a 1967 cherry red Mustang convertible.  There was a triple closed-casket funeral, then one of the boy's mothers insisted on opening her son's casket because we seniors were getting into the drama of the thing too much, making it a movie of the week.  So my four boys are from memory, with embellishments and imaginary traits that fit the plot and made them contrastive.  The horrible trick of a writer is to make you love people that you're going to lose, so I hope the boys are attractive in their different ways. The step-grandfather in the story is based on my dad, who died a couple of years ago.  This may sound weird, but I think I wrote this book through grief, to figure out what you can keep in the face of death's finality.  It helped, as all writing (and reading!) helps to clarify this messy and beautiful thing called life.

And last but not least… if you could take ANY fictional character on ANY vacation for a week without any limitations, who would you take and where?

V: Well, I guess I would take Huck Finn, or I'd get him to take me, and we'd go down the Mississippi on his beloved and shabby raft.   And then some Missouri evening when the sky is such that you can't tell it from the water we'd slip right between those two elements and sail on eternally, with, yes, a book forever in our hands!

Thanks so much for sharing with us Vicki!

BEYOND THE SUN by Sandra Bischoff: COVER REVEAL + INTERVIEW

Beyond the Sun
By ~ Sandra Bischoff
Genre ~ Paranormal Romance

Fifteen years ago, Jared Bonatelli had it all.  The youngest son of one of the founding families in the Conservatorship of The Dark Order he lived a life you only thought existed in novels and nightmares.  He had just graduated from Oxford University and became engaged to his childhood sweetheart when he lost it all in one violent act.  The very next day he found himself shipped off to New Orleans with only the money in his pocket and whatever he could fit in one suitcase.  Since that night, he has suffered reliving his fiancé’s murder repeatedly in his dreams.  It isn’t until he finds himself summoned back to New York for an emergency meeting of the Conservatorship that the comfortable world he lives in begins to crumble around him.

Alexandra Toscano has been searching for the one assignment that could catapult her journalistic career.  When her editor Gene O’Hanlon drops a manila folder in her lap, Alex is immediately skeptical.   At first glance, the information he hands her seems like a publicity piece that is until she comes across an article he wrote some fifteen years ago about Vampires murdering a young woman in Central Park.  She is ready to laugh it off as a work of fiction until he points out he was an eye witness to the whole thing.  But that wasn’t all.  The girl’s boyfriend was a member of a prominent Italian family who vanished the very next day.

Now as Alex begins to dig deeper into Jared’s life, she begins to question her own past.  Could the answer she seeks be found in the glowing eyes of the one person she is sworn to expose?  Or will they both find themselves torn apart by a world Beyond the Sun?

******
And now we have a special treat for you! We sat down with Sandra to ask her a few questions to share with you guys. Check out our interview below.

Welcome to Living Fictitiously Sandra! We are so excited to have you today, and thanks for answering some questions for us.

Britney: Beyond the Sun is a Paranormal Romance; what made you want to write in this genre? Did you have any specific inspiration?
Sandra: I am a big fan of Paranormals. I love the idea that anything is possible in them. You aren’t limited. Your characters can be whatever you want them to be. As for inspiration, believe it or not for Beyond the Sun it came from King Arthur and Camelot.

B: What can we expect from the story? I mean, obviously some paranormal activity and some romance (hopefully a healthy dose), but what else?
S: Murder and mayhem from a certain Princess, a prelude to a Civil War brewing and a few other surprises but I can’t give away all of my secrets.

Mike Vogel: Photo found at
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1036181/
B: Can you tell us a little more about the characters in BtS? Did shmexy Jared come from any real world inspiration? (If so, can you introduce me? Lol!) Is Alex anything like you?
S: The inspiration behind Jared comes from an actor I modeled him after, Mike Vogel. He’s a very down to earth guy on screen and off. But there is still a broken vulnerability about him that endears him to your heart.
I’m not really sure where Alex’s inspiration came from. It’s most likely a combination of all the female reporters I’ve ever seen on TV and a little of myself. She’s not one of those “oh woe as me” women. She’s firmly in control of her own life.

B: You’re a Pharmacist by day; do you moonlight as more than a writer by night? Do you hunt vampires, whip up love potions, or have any other hobbies?
S: I’m actually an archer, target shooting to be exact. The second I pick up my bow, everything else in the world vanishes. So I’m pretty sure the big bad’s of the night know to keep their distance or they’ll be shish kabobed. I did try my hand at a love potion and it landed me the most wonderful guy in the world. But I found out it really was only water with lemon in it so I guess it was all me. No potion necessary.

B: Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book/series?
S: Sherrilyn Kenyon, hands down. I love her writing and she is an absolute class act in person. She took the time on more than one occasion to talk with me. She’s extremely inspiring as is her Dark Hunter Series.

B: Do you have a favorite time/place/method of writing?
S: I write whenever I can fit it in. Sometimes during the day. Sometimes at night. The only thing that remains constant is that there is music. I have a playlist for each book I am writing. Right now the playlist for my next book is running. The playlist is called Lancelot.

B: Is there anything else about you or Beyond the Sun that you want to share with us?
S: Aside from being a dark Paranormal, there is a lighter side to it. When you meet Lance Du Lac you’ll understand. If I had to pick a favorite character from the book it’s actually him. He’s like that voice in the back of your head that you hear but keep the thoughts to yourself. Only difference is, he says it out loud.

Now for the rapid fire, totally pointless, but infinitely fun questions!
Pink or blue?  blue
Coffee or tea?   Coffee
Hot or cold?  Hot
Dogs or cats?  Dogs
Beach or mountains?  Beach
Vampires or werewolves?  Vampires
City or country?  Country

And last but not least… if you could take ANY fictional character on ANY vacation for a week without any limitations, who would you take and where?
S: Rehvenge from the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. The where doesn’t really matter. Just as long as I had him to myself for the week, under lock and key. I’d make sure he didn’t need that fur coat of his to keep warm. ;)

Thank you Sandi so much for answering all of our totally serious questions. I can’t wait to read Beyond the Sun!
Thank you so much for having me. I had a great time.
