BOOK SUMMARY:
Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that both bind them together and tear them apart.
Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.
Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.
Review:
Great
book! I mean, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this one. I was very
engrossed in Layla and Landen’s story; so much so that I tore through the book
and both novellas in no time at all. This one will test your emotional boundaries, while watching 2 very broken people fight for a life together.
I
loved that both of these characters were broken. It’s not a story of one saving
the other; it’s really a story of them saving each other. But what I loved most
was that all there problems are not magically fixed. There’s not an end-all-be-all
solution with a nice pretty bow at the conclusion. This relationship is real.
Let’s face it, every relationship is a constant work in progress, and Landen
and Layla are amazing examples of this concept. There are some series issues
presented in this book and they definitely affect both the character’s lives
and relationships.
While
KEEP ME STILL is a standalone novel,
there are 2 novellas: Let You Leave &
Hold Us Close. DO NOT SKIP THEM! You
really won’t get a complete picture without them. I read Let You Leave immediately prior to Keep Me Still and Hold Us
Close right after. I strongly recommend this method. You will get the
complete story with a much more in depth look at the couple involved.
So,
to sum up everything, go buy KEEP ME
STILL and get to reading! You’ll fall in love with the book, invest in the
characters, and ache right along with them. There will be tears and laughter
and smiles and an overall pleased feeling after it all.
