ADDICTED FOR NOW by Becca & Krista Ritchie - Blog Tour

Addicted for Now (Addicted #2)
Release Date: 11/30/13

Summary from Goodreads:
He's addicted to booze. She's addicted to sex...staying sober is only half the battle.

No. More. Sex.

Those are the three words Lily Calloway fears the most. But Loren Hale is determined to be with Lily without enabling her dangerous compulsions. With their new living situation—sleeping in the same bed, for real, together—Lily has new battles. Like not jumping Lo’s bones every night. Not being consumed by sex and his body.

Loren plans to stay sober, to right all of his wrongs. So when someone threatens to expose Lily’s secret to her family and the public, he promises that he’ll do anything to protect her. But with old enemies surfacing, Lo has more at stake than his sobriety.

They will torment Lily until Lo breaks.

And his worst fear isn’t relapsing. He hears the end. He sees it. The one thing that could change everything. Just three words.

No. More. Us.

New Adult Romance recommended for readers 18+ for mature content

Review:
I am completely obsessed with this series! It just has a completely different feel from any other book I’ve read. We’ve all read about alcoholics before, but the fact that the alcoholic is involved with and enabling a sex addict is a completely new concept for me. I read the first book, Addicted to You, over the summer for the blog tour and I was hooked. I was so excited for the next book, because I had no clue how it could get any better, but I just knew it would.

Addicted For Now has an added bonus too. It’s told from both Lily and Loren Hale’s (Lo) POV. I always enjoy getting the guy’s perspective, but what I like the most about getting inside Lo’s head is seeing the motivation behind his actions. In book 1, we only see the surface of how he feels, the show he puts on for everyone. Getting inside his head opened up a whole new world of hurt and devotion, and let me just say that it is completely eye-opening and just made me love him all the more. He’s seriously flawed, but he knows it and while at times he has been selfish, he is also extremely kind-hearted and caring.

And Lily is very much in need of kind-hearted and caring. Her journey is possibly the most difficult one I could ever imagine. There are some serious psychological motivations for her addiction, and we finally start to see where her sex addiction stems from. It’s very enlightening. Her relationship with Lo becomes inspiring, where in book 1 it was very depressing and well, just plain bad on so many levels. Again, getting Lo’s POV really opens things up.

Some themes from Ricochet (book 1.5) are continued in Addicted For Now, and I’ve become very fond of Ryke and Daisy and even Connor and Rose. I’m looking forward to seeing where these two very different relationships go in the future. Overall, I am so impressed with what the authors have done not only with this story but with the topic. Sex addiction, especially female sex addiction, is a very hush-hush topic. The authors have done an amazing job of representing the reality of the addiction and its stigma. Hats off to both ladies!

One thing to remember about this series is that it is written for a mature audience. Not just adults, but mature adults. I do not think it’s possible for a reader who lacks a certain measure of growth to grasp the reality of the situations in these books. Yes, there is sex. A lot of it actually. And yes, it is fiction; however, the message contained in these pages is serious and noteworthy. I only recommend these books to people who can look at the overall implications and message, not those with a limited, tunnel-vision view of complex topics.

THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY by Laurie Halse Anderson: Early Review

Title: The Impossible Knife Of Memory
Author: Laurie Halse Anderson
Publisher: Viking Juvenile
Publish Date: January, 7 2014

Synopsis:
For the past five years, Hayley Kincaid and her father, Andy, have been on the road, never staying long in one place as he struggles to escape the demons that have tortured him since his return from Iraq. Now they are back in the town where he grew up so Hayley can attend school. Perhaps, for the first time, Hayley can have a normal life, put aside her own painful memories, even have a relationship with Finn, the hot guy who obviously likes her but is hiding secrets of his own.

Will being back home help Andy’s PTSD, or will his terrible memories drag him to the edge of hell, and drugs push him over? The Impossible Knife of Memory is Laurie Halse Anderson at her finest: compelling, surprising, and impossible to put down.

Review:
Laurie Halse Anderson has the most amazing writing ability. I have enjoyed reading many of her books including SPEAK and WINTERGIRLS, and now I can happily add THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY to my favorites list. Anderson's writing has a very literary and almost lyrical feel to it, while always tackling intense and difficult subjects. I think controversial topics can, at times, have the most profound impact on the reader, and Anderson surely accomplishes this with her latest book.

THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY is quite frankly, remarkable. The topic, PTSD, is a very real and profoundly devastating disorder that is becoming more and more common due to the war. This disorder affects not only the bearer but those around them, and Anderson has done an impressive job of capturing these effects on a child. How do you help someone who can't help himself?

The emotion and devastation that Hayley experiences is so real the reader will be completely encompassed by her fear and the weight she bears. The tension in the book and among the characters is palpable. It will at times make your heart race, and at others bring tears to your eyes. The heavy responsibility that this 17 year-old-girl is given for most of her life is something that most people would be terrified of or collapse under. Her strength is admirable, yet the main message with the pages is that these types of issues will never resolve themselves.

THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY is a book that will remain with readers long after they close the cover. The message is one of hope and encouragement. Asking for help is not a weakness. While I am sure that this will once again be a controversial book that makes in on numerous "banned book" lists, it is also a book that can and will inspire. As always with Anderson's books, the heartache, pain, stress and fear will cut readers down to their deepest emotion, but ultimately those cuts will heal into a beautiful story to share and inspire others.

Release Day: THAT ONE SUMMER by C.J. Duggan

Book: That One Summer
Author: C.J. Duggan
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: December 17, 2013

Loving Chris Henderson would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every thought, every minute of every day …

He sure could kiss.

As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.

So that can only mean one thing: road trip!

No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.

She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?

After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.

Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.

Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.

Warning: sexual references and occasional coarse language.

“So what do you think?” Chris stood with his elbow leaning casually on the open door of his jet black panel van. He looked up at me expectantly. “Pretty sweet ride, huh?” “If you’re a serial killer,” I said, cautiously descending the steps. Chris’s head snapped around with surprise, his eyes almost as dark as the van itself. He slammed the car door and folded his arms, glowering at me as I approached. “I’ll have you know, Toby and I have spent the better part of six months fixing this old girl up.” I wrinkled my nose. “Really?” “It’s got a 308 and a four barrel carby.” “Why, it could be grease lightning,” I smirked. I didn’t think a death stare could vary in so many ways, but Chris had mastered a variety of pissed-off stares like no other. The one he was now casting me was a whole new level of anger. Oops. I cleared my throat and looked away, suddenly super aware that the last thing I should do was alienate my ride, but then the thought did occur to me: did I want to be trapped in a car with Chris Henderson for three days? Three long, insufferable days – could I subject myself to any more death stares, sneers, scoffs and deep sighs? Maybe I would be doing myself a favour if I gave him good reason to leave me behind. Before I fully acclimated to the idea, my attention was snapped back to the present and the duffle bag that landed at my feet. I frowned toward the verandah where Chris had moved and was readying himself to turf my other bag down. “Hey! Watch it,” I snapped. “You might break something.” It was a possibility, though I didn’t know exactly what. Maybe Mum had slipped in a crockery set? Who could honestly guess? “Let me guess,” Chris said with a smirk as he slung my beach bag over his shoulder and trotted down the steps. “Hairdryer?” He threw a cocky smile and grazed my shoulder as he passed, heading for the van. My eyes burned into his back as he opened the double doors to chuck in my bag. He turned to me expectantly, his hand out for me to pass him the duffle. I snatched it up, trying not to let the strain of its weight show as I lugged it over and carefully placed it into the back. I attempted to, anyway. With a rather inelegant lack of grace, I hitched it up onto my knee, trying to be all cool and casual, as if I was totally in control … I so wasn’t. Chris plucked it from me as if the bag weighed nothing and turfed it into the back. “Careful!” “Relax, it landed on the mattress.” Mattress? I peered into the back. Sure enough, a mattress lined the whole floor up to the front bucket seats. The windows were blacked out and the inside walls were lined with black carpet. Oh, ick. All it needed was some leopard-print cushions and a disco ball. It would seem that black was a common theme throughout Chris’s van, and the colour matched his mood.
Chris slammed the back shut. Viewing time was over.
I half expected him to say, “Let’s get this show on the road,” or “We’re burning daylight,” but instead I got a rather lacklustre, “Get in.”Yep! Three long days.

Slade and Samantha's story continues...

Review:

BIG sigh!  This book is fabulously passionate and sexy! I loved Slade and Sam in Undescribable and now I just love them even more. They are seriously flawed, yet they still love each other, and I in return, love that! This book picks up right from the end of book one to create a smoothly flowing story. Well, the storyline flows smoothly, unfortunately for the characters, it's a pretty rough transition.

One thing that Slade and Sam do not lack in is passion, and at times that passion overflows through their anger and frustration and stubbornness. I love their intensity and commitment, even when one of them is running full speed ahead away from their fears. The intense relationship these two share is at times overwhelming, but in a good way. They share a love that sees past their flaws and mistakes.

There is a  mystery to go along with this book that really kept me guessing, and a brand new character that I just can't wait to see more of in the final book in the trilogy. I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens with Slade and Sam, and especially this new character who is rather mysterious.

An Adult Suspense

Killing Sarai (In the Company of Killers, #1) is on sale for .99 cents for the release of Reviving Izabel!

Killing Sarai: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Kobo

Reviving Izabel Synopsis:

Determined to live a dark life in the company of the assassin who freed her from bondage, Sarai sets out on her own to settle a score with an evil sadist. Unskilled and untrained in the art of killing, the events that unfold leave her hanging precariously on the edge of death when nothing goes as planned.

Sarai’s reckless choices send her on a path she knows she can never turn back from and so she presents Victor with an ultimatum: help her become more like him and give her a fighting chance, or she’ll do it alone no matter the consequences. Knowing that Sarai cannot become what she wants to be overnight, Victor begins to train her and inevitably their complicated relationship heats up.

As Arthur Hamburg’s right-hand man, Willem Stephens, closes in on his crusade to destroy Sarai, she is left with the crushing realization that she may have bitten off more than she can chew. But Sarai, taking on the new and improved role of Izabel Seyfried, still has a set of deadly skills of her own that will prove to be all she needs to secure her place beside Victor.

But there is one test that Izabel must face that has the potential to destroy everything she is working so hard to achieve. One final test that will not only make her question her decision to want this dangerous life, but will make her question everything she has come to trust about Victor Faust.

EXCERPT
-Unexpected Affection-
Victor reaches up and touches my wet hair. The gesture causes my heart to race.
“You have a good sense of people, Sarai,” he says as his hand moves to my chin. “You’re right about Fredrik…,” the pad of his thumb brushes my bottom lip. A shiver races between my legs. “He is…shall I say…unhinged in a sense.”
My breathing picks up and I feel my lashes sweep my face when Victor’s lips fall upon mine.
“Unhinged in what way,” I ask breathily when he pulls back. With my eyes closed, I sense his scanning the curvature of my face and my lips, and I feel the breath emitting softly from his nostrils onto my face.
Every miniscule hair stands on end when his other hand pushes up my thigh and finds my naked waist underneath the shirt. His long fingers dance against the flesh of my hipbone and then rests there.
I open my eyes to see him staring back into mine.
“Is something wrong?” he asks and his mouth sweeps mine again.
“No, I…I just didn’t expect this.”
“Expect what?” I feel his fingers fit behind the elastic of my panties.
My head is swimming, my stomach a fluttering, nervous ball of muscle. “This,” I answer, my eyes opening and closing. “You’re different,” I add softly.
“That’s your fault,” he says and then his lips devour mine.
He pushes my body back against the couch pillows and falls between my legs.
His cell phone buzzes around on the coffee table and I’m reminded just how human I really am when I curse Fredrik for ruining this moment even if it’s to let me know that Dina is safe.
